Standing water saturates the sub-grade, reduces its bearing capacity, and creates the conditions for sub-grade pumping (where heavy traffic forces water and fines up through the asphalt, creating persistent potholes). Done right, drainage extends pavement life by 10+ years. Done wrong, it kills pavement in 5 to 7 years.
Common Drainage Problems We Fix

Catch Basin Repair and Reconstruction
Catch basins (the inlet structures connecting the parking lot to the storm sewer) are the most common drainage repair scope. Failure modes: wall deterioration from freeze-thaw and salt, pipe-to-basin joint failure, frame settlement, grate damage from snow plows. Repairs range from a $1,500 frame-and-grate replacement to a $5,000+ full rebuild.
Surface Grading Corrections
Sometimes the drainage problem is not the catch basin — it is the asphalt grading. Water pools in a low spot 50 feet from the catch basin because the grade slopes wrong. Fix is mill-and-overlay with corrected grade, sometimes combined with installation of a new catch basin or trench drain.
Trench Drains for Long Linear Areas
Linear drainage problems (along curbs, at building entrances, at dock-door approaches) are best solved with trench drains — channels with grates that collect water across a long distance. We install precast trench drains tied into the existing storm system.
Sub-Grade Pumping Repair
When you see water and fines pumping up through cracks during heavy rain or under heavy traffic, the sub-grade has failed. Surface patches will not last. The fix: saw-cut and remove the failed area, excavate to good base, install free-draining stone with possibly geotextile fabric, then full-depth asphalt repair.
